OCR text extraction guidance
Text extraction returns nothing from a scanned PDF or a photographed document, because the page is a single image with no character data inside. OCR finds the characters in that image and turns them into copyable text. Accuracy depends on resolution, so use the original rather than a downscaled screenshot.

Errors you will hit
Characters come out garbled
Resolution matters most. Recapture zoomed in, or scan at 300 DPI or higher. Straightening a skewed photo also lifts accuracy sharply.
Mixed languages reduce accuracy
Selecting the recognition language helps, but a single image containing two scripts raises the error rate either way. Always proofread the output.
Handwriting is not recognized
This tool assumes printed text. Handwriting needs a different class of model and will not perform well here.
Things to check
Image quality matters
Blur, skew, low contrast, and tiny text reduce accuracy. Use the clearest source image available.
Review important text
OCR is an assistant, not a source of truth. Compare contracts, amounts, and account numbers with the original image.
Resolution drives accuracy
Recognition drops sharply once character height falls below about 20 pixels. Recapturing at native resolution beats a downscaled screenshot. Straighten skewed photos before running OCR.
Tables and columns come out interleaved
OCR finds characters; it does not understand document structure. Tables lose their cell boundaries and two-column layouts alternate left and right. Plan a cleanup step rather than using the raw output.
Watch for lookalike characters
0 and O, 1 and l and I, 5 and S are frequently confused. Values where one character matters — account numbers, order IDs, serials — need a visual check. Put validation in any pipeline that forwards OCR output automatically.
